The property at 24-26 St. Stephens Street, Norwich was acquired by the HBOS for the purpose of becoming a high profile "Acorn" branch. Previously a retail clothing store, the property consisted of three floors and works to refurbish and fit-out the entire property were originally planned to start in February 2006 for a 16 week period. After an initial visit to site and a Type 3 asbestos survey, asbestos containing materials were discovered in the majority of the building. A start on site date was postponed until asbestos removal arrangements could be made and when all necessary approvals were in place the removal works took 4 weeks. This meant that the site-works programme did not commence until April 2006. The main aspects of work to transform an empty shop-unit into a functional high street bank offering a full range of HBOS banking services included:
• Full mechanical & electrical installation
• Formation of lift pit and installation of lift equipment
• Structural works to first floor
• Extensive Roofing Work
• New shop-front installation
• All new rendering to external elevations
• External & internal security installations
Despite the initial delays the programme was delivered as planned and the branch was successfully handed over to its new staff on Monday 31st July 2006. Castles wish them the very best for their future success.
